The Siam Story: How a Pair of Pants Became Our Signature

Every house has a piece that people recognise from across the street. For Maison Les Énervés, it is a pair of trousers named after a mother. This is how the Siam went from a personal tribute to the signature of the house.

The Siam carries the name of Siham, the mother of our founder, Wakim Krari. It is a tribute to her strength and her elegance, two qualities we wanted every pair to carry. The name is short and easy to say in any language. It has travelled further than anyone imagined, which feels fitting for a piece made for people who travel.

A founder who missed his flight on purpose

To understand the Siam, you need to understand the person who drew it. Wakim studied architecture in Brussels and Paris, began his career at an architecture studio in New York, then built his own practice in Paris. A stable life, a familiar rhythm.

Then came a trip to Bali. What was meant to be a short journey became something else. Wakim cancelled his return flight and ended his Paris life with a few phone calls.

In Parisian slang, that kind of decision has a name: énervé. Literally, the word means angry. On the streets of Paris it has a second life: it describes someone who lives intensely, curious about the world and unafraid of the unexpected. Maison Les Énervés was founded in 2020, between Paris and Bali, with a playful promise in its identity: ‘Bold without anger’.

Designed like a building

Volume, use and movement: the three things an architect thinks about first, and the three things the Siam was built on.

An architect does not start with decoration. He starts with volume, use and movement, and only after that with how the thing will look. The Siam was designed exactly that way, by someone who had spent years drawing buildings.

Volume

A generous silhouette, comfortable and elegant at the same time.

Use

Pockets sized for a passport and a phone, because the Siam was meant to cross borders. There are a few hidden pockets too, kept discreet on purpose. We will let you find them.

Movement

A fabric that breathes, drapes and follows the body rather than constraining it.

That fabric took time. It is a 50/50 blend of Egyptian cotton and linen, developed to breathe naturally while keeping its structure and a beautiful drape. It works under the sun of Bali, and it holds up through a long-haul flight to Paris.

Picasso-inspired lines, embroidered by hand

Where the Siam’s lines come from: an architect’s sketchbook, and a painter who could draw a face without lifting his pen.

What makes a Siam recognisable from afar is the line. A thick embroidery in relief, worked by hand, that draws faces, eyes and lips on the fabric. It comes directly from Wakim’s background: the architectural sketches he drew for years, and the expressive single-line drawings of Pablo Picasso.

Because the line is embroidered by hand, it is never exactly the same twice. Every pair is, quite literally, one of a kind. Over the years the line has taken new forms: bold and graphic, tone on tone, and on some pieces drawn in white faux fur.

Made by hand in Bali

Every Siam is made by hand in our atelier in Bali, and made to order. That takes 7 to 14 business days before your pair ships with DHL Express. It is slower than fast fashion, and that is precisely the point: the piece is made for you, not for a warehouse.

One story, many silhouettes

Straight or very baggy, embroidered, tone on tone or in faux fur: the Siam family, version by version.

The Siam family has grown, but every version keeps the same DNA: the name, the line and the hand. What changes is the cut, the length and how loudly the line speaks, from a whisper of tone on tone to white faux fur.

  • Siam Straight: high waist, straight leg, a Bali shell button and the ‘Les Énervés’ signature embroidered on the waistband. Custom tailoring is offered at no extra charge.
  • Siam Oversize: the very baggy version that became our cult piece, worn by men and women.
  • Siam Oversize tone on tone: the embroidery takes the colour of the fabric, for a more discreet statement.
  • Siam Oversize Fur: the line drawn in white faux fur.
  • Siam Short: the same story, cut above the knee.
  • Siam Oversize x Ekster: a numbered limited run in Regatta Blue.

Why it became our signature

A piece made for real life, and a small moment on the street that kept repeating itself.

The Siam was never designed to be a trend. It was designed to be worn: on planes, at dinners, on scooters, at parties that end at sunrise. Comfortable enough for real life, distinctive enough to stand out.

And then something kept happening. People wore their Siam outside, and strangers stopped them in the street to ask where the trousers came from. For Wakim, there is no better reward. A pair of trousers that starts conversations between people who would never have spoken otherwise: that is what a signature should do.
